Episode overview
The story behind the conversation
Carl Townley—a Navy veteran, retired law-enforcement officer, and Shreveport chapter coordinator—recounts the 2007 story that inspired Guitars for Vets and explains how the program grew into an international volunteer network.
He describes the Shreveport-Bossier program's ten free lessons, new guitars for graduates, ongoing jam sessions, privacy protections, local fundraising, and the graduates who return as instructors.
Carl also shares personal stories of veterans gaining confidence and connection through music, then explains why his own guitar can feel like medicine during difficult days.
